Gimp: Free (and great) image editing software

I know this software name sounds strange, but Gimp is a great image editing software. The word GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It works on multiple platforms–PC, Apple, Unix, Linux–and best of all, it’s free and easy to use. The only part of it that seems to pose a problem to Windows users is its installation process. You need to download and install two packages: one software package (called GTK+2) and then the software itself.

Instead of telling you in writing, I’ve put together a quick video podcast that shows you how to do this:

If you (or your students) need a great image editing program, try out Gimp. I think you’ll like it. Here is the direct link to download the two programs for your Windows computer: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
